I am a group leader focusing 100% in research in the cross sections of oncology, AI and computational hematology. My career began in Prof. Kallioniemi’s group studying breast cancer treatment resistance (2010). I performed a PhD on the immune system of leukemia patients under the supervision of Prof. Mustjoki, and postdoctoral studies with Prof. Porkka starting the development of the HUS Hematology clinical database and related softwares (text mining, data harmonization).
In 2021, I founded the Hematoscope Lab, where we integrate image, clinical, genomic, and proteomic data with advanced computational methods to study blood cancers. Working with students challenges me every day and I’m really passionate about it. Equally rewarding is my work on the technical side, where I write code to curate and analyze complex clinical data.
As principal investigator, I lead 3 multi-center studies involving hospitals from >10 countries and supervise PhD students. My lab has secured funding from national foundations, EU-wide programs (3 grants), Academy of Finland (2 grants) and an U.S.-based foundation (1 grant). Finally, I have been actively advocated to improve research laws by publishing evidence and participating in working groups since 2023, which have contributed to changes in the Secondary Use Act, Act on Clinical Trials, and the Tissue Act.
